Week 10 Reflection: Science Fix
If you're a teacher like me, you are looking for ways to make learning fun while using great resources that will grab the interest of your students, then sciencefix.com is for you!
Sciencefix.com was founded by Darren Fix as a resource for middle school science teachers. It contains lesson and video demonstrations to be used in the classroom, as well as a blog. Fix has been a science teacher for 17 years and currently teaches 7th and 8th grade science in Rocklin, California. You can visit Darren at his Twitter Page or check out his Tag Page with common video topics. You can also find things through his Search Bar or just ask him a question or make contact with him here.

One lesson I found very exciting was about Melting Rates. Within this video the content discussed is at the middle school level. Although these resources can still be used with younger grades, if explained appropriately. This is why I found his video lessons so fascinating and exciting, they can be adapted and used for almost any grade level, not just middle school.

Another lesson I liked is Water Bottle Rockets. In this video, the teacher designed water bottle rockets while the students were able to choose one variable to manipulate with their rockets. This is great for showing how variables can change the performance an experiment, as well as show Newton's Laws of Motion. The lesson is also great for showing students, who are unable to do the experiment, how rockets can behave.

These videos can be used as an intro to a lesson, an activity in the middle, or as a refresher before a test. Additionally, these videos are great resources if the class is unable to perform the experiment themselves. I love that he is able to explain the concepts in a way that is easy for students to understand. As a future elementary teacher I will at some point be teaching some sort of science to my student and this website is something that I am very excited about using in my future career.
