Week 4 Reflection: Tech Edge-Mobile Learning in the Classroom
Guy Trainin, is his name and giving educators an edge on today's tech is his game. This guy has several videos on YouTube that you can view new and exciting apps and technologies for a wide range of categories and lessons. I decided to go the Reading route and chose Episode 11, the one about cross device reading apps. I enjoyed Guy's enthusiasm for these apps and his concise rundown about what these apps are about and what they can do. I do have to say that I wish he had put up links to lead you directly to these apps, because it was a little difficult trying to find the exact apps that he was speaking of. Besides that, this is a great place to find new was to use technology in your classroom to enhance students' learning. You should definitely check it out.

Now, within this video, Guy talks about a couple of apps you can use to help better enhance you students' reading abilities. As a teacher you aren't always going to be able to be there with every student, for every book they read, from start to finish. This first app will help you do that. It's called Read With Me. This is a great app and absolutely one that I will be using in my classroom. It has a great range of books for young readers, but the part that got me the most excited is the voice recording ability. The app will record your students' voice as they read a book aloud and it will be score the child's fluency in reading the book. It also always you to study the words that the book was trying to teach you, but I thought the "voice" for that was a little creepy and could probably use a re-dub on that one.
The second app the Guy talks about is called EPIC! and it is relatively the same type of app. It doesn't have the cool recording feature that Read With Me has, but it does have what seems to be a wider range of books. A lot being ones that you might have seen or read as tangible books. The app lets you choose your age/reading level and also allows you to choose what subjects you might be interesting in reading. This all the app to sort through the vast number of books in their library. The books on this app look and act like books. You turn the pages on the screen like a book and better yet you can zoom in on pictures and, more importantly, on the words. Being able to do this, allows readers to focus and read the words better. This app is another great way to help with children's reading abilities.
