For this week's project we were tasked with creating a short trailer using iMovie. It could be about any of the following topics, as long as it related to school and could be used within the classroom.

IMovie was quite easy to use, a lot easier than I thought it would be. I found that it was very simple to add photos and videos from the iPad and I liked that the template made it fast and easy to change the words and pictures. From choosing the location of the words, music, font, and timing it did all of that for me. All I had to do was put in the pieces that I wanted into the little blue lines and voila, it was done. The one complaint that I could make was that I wish you could increase or decrease the length of some of the video segments, but I understand that the whole idea of a trailer is to make it short, sweet, and simple.
This is a great tool that can be utilized in so many ways in the classroom. At first glance at this app I have to say I didn’t really see the greatest of academic possibilities, but after creating my video and thinking about it I realized the endless possibilities for learning and creativity. There are so many applications for iMovie in every subject, every grade, and every skill level. Making a trailer is very easy for younger students to use and will a little time, effort, and practice they could even use the full version as well. Older students would be able to take advantage of the full iMovie version. They could customize and create more intricate videos for classroom projects.
Where my group made a video about the social problems of bullying in school, others could make a video about how to reduce the spreading of germs in school or academic honesty. But students could also create videos about book reports, where they reenact scenes from the books they have read. They even could make mini documentaries about historical events or make a video following an experiment they are doing in science class. Possibilities could even go outside the classroom for cultural events and extra-curricular activities at school, such as make a trailers for the school play, parent/teacher night, or a sports event. The possibilities for using iMovie in the classroom are fantastic, endless, and I can’t wait to see what bright young minds come up by using it.
